In a bid to bolster exploration after winding down its Western Australian mining operations in July, Fox Resources Ltd has hired Newexco Services Pty Ltd to undertake base metals exploration.

Fox managing director Bruno Seneque said the appointment of the Perth firm will help underpin a return to nickel production at the company's Radio Hill nickel and copper mine.

In July the company announced it would wind down mining at the project after sharp falls in commodity prices.

According to Fox, Newexco has a successful track record of in nickel exploration with the firm counting Perth companies Western Areas NL and Northern Mining Ltd among its clients.

"With Newexco to drive and manage the exploration program, we are confident we can substantially enhance our current exploration position," Mr Seneque said.

"Exploration will initially have a particular focus on finding more nickel sulphides close to the existing Radio Hill underground mine."

Fox will continue to manage exploration at the Mt Oscar iron ore project where drilling is currently underway.
