Explosives and chemicals manufacturer Orica has appointed former Macmahon Holdings managing director Nick Bowen as executive global head, mining services.

Mr Bowen held the position of managing director at Macmahon for 13 years before resigning in September last year in the wake of a significant profit downgrade at the company.

He will start at Orica next month.

"The appointment of Nick Bowen adds significant strength to the executive management team and his experience in the mining services sector will be invaluable in enhancing Orica's ability to meet the needs of its customers," Orica managing director Ian Smith said.

Mr Bowen will step down from his current role of executive chairman at mining services firm Tempo Australia upon taking up his position at Orica next month.

He will remain with Tempo as a non-executive director.

Non-executive director Richard Wright will take over as Tempo chairman.
