Former Austrade WA boss to head club

FORMER WA manager of Austrade Terry Goss has been appointed to head up the commission’s Olympic-oriented Business Club Australia program.

Mr Goss will have full responsibility for all aspects of the club concept and activity within Australia in his capacity as executive manager Business Club Australia.

Prior to taking on his new role, Mr Goss was based in Johannesburg where, as senior trade commissioner and minister commercial for Austrade, he dealt regularly with a large number of WA companies active in the southern African business arena.

Announcing Mr Goss’ appointment, Austrade managing director Charles Jamieson said the Business Club Australia program was conceived in 1998 as part of the Australian government’s Australia Open For Business Olympic business strategy.

“The Sydney 2000 Olympic Games has placed Australia under greater scrutiny than ever from a discerning international audience,” Mr Jamieson said.

“We know the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games will command an audience in excess of four billion people and current figures estimate more than 80,000 international business people will visit Australia prior to, during and after the event,” he said.

“This global attention has presented us with an enormous opportunity to establish strong messages and an increased awareness of this country’s business capability.”

Mr Jamieson said that, with Business Club Australia membership figures already topping the 7,000 mark and with some 200 WA companies listed, there was an opportunity for more WA companies to join the program and benefit from access to international buyers and potential investors.

The Business Club Australia program is managed by Austrade in conjunction with State and Territory governments, Federal Government agencies, industry associations and key corporate players including BHP, Ansett Australia and Westpac.
