Food Fest for a cause

Tuesday, 15 April, 2003 - 22:00

A sausage sizzle at StateWest Credit Society last week was no flash-in-the-pan event.

StateWest senior manager retail Tony Romano said the late-Friday occasion was just one in a portfolio of community awareness activities the firm undertakes.

"Our staff are very big on corporate citizenship," Mr Romano said.

Last year StateWest raised $10,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and this year an internal staff survey has identified a top-5 list of charities to assist.

Friday’s sizzle and associated free dress day was in support of Diabetes Australia’s "The Great Australian Bite".

In addition to the staff event, StateWest has formed a strategic alliance with Diabetes Australia, whereby StateWest makes further contributions when Diabetes Australia members use StateWest products.

This April event gives you the chance to put your money where your mouth is, with Diabetes Australia encouraging businesses, community groups, friends and families to put together some kind of food-fest, to bring in the dollars for research and education.

But for those visualising multiple chocolate and bunfests, a gentle reminder - it is currently believed Type 2 diabetes can be prevented by a healthy lifestyle, including a general diet low in fat and sugar.

Host kits are available from Diabetes Australia WA, 1300 136 588.
