WA EXPORTERS now have a representative in the increasingly lucrative Taiwanese market.
Sherry Lin has been appointed WA Business Development Man-ager in Taipei and will be based in the Australian Business Centre.
As well as providing market information and contacts to WA exporters, she will promote trade and investment opportunities to Taiwanese business.
Her position is jointly funded by the Department of Commerce and Trade and Agriculture WA.
Commerce and Trade Minister Hendy Cowan said Taiwan was WA’s fifth largest export market.
“Education, software development and supplies and services for the building and construction industries are examples of areas with considerable prospects for expansion,” Mr Cowan said.
Primary Industry Minister Monty House said Taiwan was WA’s seventh largest agricultural and fisheries export market worth $187 million in 1997-98 and had significant growth potential.
“Opportunities should increase when Taiwan joins the World Trade Organisation in the near future,” Mr House said.
“Taiwan is also a major source of aquaculture and agricultural products imported by Japan and we see potential for attracting investment from Taiwanese companies in WA to supply this market.”
