THE construction of Exmouth Marina Village is already delivering benefits to the local economy, with LandCorp estimating about 20 per cent of the contracts value was flowing back to business in the Gascoyne region.

The State Government last year awarded a $10.6 million contract for the project, which will create four super lots to be developed as resort and canal-based residential, commercial and marine industry precincts.

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said about $1 million had been spent on fuel for the earthmoving machinery alone, which was being supplied through a regional outlet.

“In addition, local businesses will have received a boost from spending generated by the 25-strong project workforce,” she said.

Construction started just before Christmas and is scheduled to be completed by July.
