2003 Energy in WA Conference

The Office of Energy in conjunction with the Australian Institute of Energy are conducting the 5th Energy in Western Australia Conference, on Wednesday March 26 and Thursday March 27, at the Sheraton Hotel.

The conference will focus on topics such as, the Government’s vision for energy in WA; forecasts of energy supply and demand in WA; future developments in WA’s gas markets; future projects for generating electricity in WA; sustainability in energy supply in WA and new technologies in electricity generation.

Keynote speakers for the conference include WA Minister for Energy, the Honourable Eric Ripper, who will outline the vision for the future for WA’s energy sector; Wesfarmers Energy, managing director, David Robb, who will talk about Wesfarmers Energy in the reformed WA energy market; CSIRO Energy Transformed Flagship Program, director, Dr John Wright who will speak about sustainable energy and the implications for WA; and Greenhouse Task Force, chairman, Fran Logan who will outline WA’s greenhouse strategy.

An industry based panel session on electricity markets will also be held during the conference and will feature, Ken Brown a system operator from Western Power who will explain how the electricity system is currently managed; Frank Harman a member of the Electricity Reform Task Force who will explain the ERTF’s recommended market arrangements; Ky Cao chairman of the Independent Power Advisory Group who will provide an industry perspective on the ERTF’s recommended market arrangements; and Matthew Rosser from the WA Sustainable Energy Association who will discuss the implications of the ERTF’s recommended market arrangements on the renewable energy industry.
