ALBANY sandalwood oil and cosmetics company, Mt Romance, has completed its first major export deal with an independent overseas marketing organisation to sell its products throughout the continent. After a 12-month marketing and distribution trial, the company, which operates under the name Mt Romance Europe, will initially sell the iconic Western Australian range of products in the Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg), where it is based. The contract is expected to yield $1 million to Mt Romance and has already made its first $30,000 order, according to Mt Romance general managing Warrick Welsh. The company already supplies oil to these markets in a large capacity, but is now looking to penetrate the market with a branded product it hopes will also boost the potential of its tourism operations. In line with the company’s philosophy of sustainability, Mt Romance has asked the distributor to return up to 5 per cent of its profits from the products to the Songman Circle of Wisdom fund, which assists local Aboriginal groups. Mr Welsh said the company expected this to facilitate the marketing strategy in Europe.
