Empired, now a wholly owned subsidiary of Capgemini Australia, has won a $59 million IT services contract with Water Corporation.

The contract involves digital workplace and infrastructure managed services to state-owned Water Corp for an initial seven years, a partnership Empired managing director Russell Baskerville said cemented the IT company’s position as a leading utilities service provider.

Its other major clients in this field include Western Power, Horizon Power, Adelaide-based ElectraNet, and New Zealand’s First Gas Group.

“Empired’s investment and focus on the heavy assets and utilities sectors continues to enhance our capabilities and competitive advantage,” Mr Baskerville said in a statement.

He said the partnership, which focused on local jobs including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment, was an opportunity for Empired to contribute to the Western Australian community.

Water Corp general manager Elise Vervetjes said it was a strategic deal that aligned with the organisation’s sustainable management of water services.

The contract contains a one-year extension option, with the scope of services including desktop support, field services, mobility services, on-premises infrastructure, and cloud services.

Empired, which was acquired by Capgemini Australia in November, has more than 1,000 employees across Australia, New Zealand, and North America. That includes 390 staff in WA, making it the state's third largest ICT company according to Business News' Data & Insights.
