Empired wins $20m Rio contract

Local IT firm Empired has won a $20 million contract to provide application managed services to mining giant Rio Tinto under a five-year term.

The scope of work involves Empired providing support and managed services for over 170 unique applications, spanning a number of platforms, which are largely technical systems used in the management of field operations spanning mining, processing, rail and port facilities.

“We are delighted to be trusted by an organisation as prestigious as Rio Tinto to manage applications that are critical to the efficient operation of one of the world’s largest mining operations,” Empired managing director Russell Baskerville said.

The contract will have an initial term of three years, with two one-year options.

Empired shares were unchanged at 83 cents each at 9:20am.
