The Emirates Group will be the first airline to bring the Airbus A380 to Perth on a regular schedule.

It announced this morning that from May next year one of its three daily flights from Perth to Dubai would be undertaken in the A380.

The change means an additional 131 passengers will be able to fly out of Perth to Dubai and vice versa - increasing seat capacity on the route by 1,834 per week.

The announcement follows the recent introduction of the A380 to Brisbane and Melbourne and a twice-daily flight to Sydney.

Emirates representative Barry Brown said Australian customers were strategic to Emirates and the deployment of the A380 demonstrated that further.

“For business and leisure travellers, the Dubai-Perth route is a popular choice and our new Emirates A380 service will be instrumental in helping the airline meet this growing passenger demand as well as deliver substantial economic benefits through travel connections and inbound seats,” Mr Brown said.

He said the service would offer passengers spacious eating and luggage allowances in economy, Wi-Fi throughout the aircraft, 2,000 channels on the in-flight entertainment system, access to on-board shower spas for first class and a 40,000 feet on-board lounge for first and business classes.

With its association with Qantas, Emirates now operates a total of six daily A380 services.
