Emerald links into HotelNet

WA company HotelNet has launched the first installation of its interactive Internet and entertainment system for hotels.

The technology was installed in the corporate rooms at the Emerald Hotel Perth.

Using new technology delivered by high-speed fibre optic cabling, the system delivers many functions including Internet and intranet access for web browsing and email, free-to-air TV, pay TV, customised digital cinema, a laptop plug-in, Internet telephony, voicemail and facsimile.

Emerald Hotel general manager Laurie O’Meara there was an increasing demand by guests for Internet facilities.

“The potential for expansion of its many features appears to be endless,” Mr O’Meara said.

The Internet channel selected on the TV provides customised information to the guest, an information database for the

hotel and can offer an increasing entertainment content.

Another 170-room Perth hotel has also contracted to install the network.

HotelNet directors Warren and Geoff Gilmour said the technology was designed with a long-term view towards future capabilities such as video conferencing.

“With an icon menu, HotelNet is simple for non-experienced Internet users to operate and it is easy for the hotel to collect fees as it interfaces with their billing and other services,” said Mr Gilmour.

The standard cost to the guest is $15 per twenty-four hours.
