Election result this weekend: WAEC

The Western Australian Electoral Commission is aiming to have an election result by the end of this weekend as postal votes make their way to the counting room.

A spokesperson for the WAEC told WA Business News that postal votes have been received by the 9am deadline and will be counted along with the declaration votes.

"Once that's all been counted the commission is hoping to conduct the full distribution of preferences over this weekend, so we'll have a result after that," the spokesperson said.

"I can't give you an exact time, it depends on how long the full distribution of preferences take, but we're hoping to have a clearer indication by the end of the weekend."

Meanwhile she said a result for the Legislative Council will not be known until the end of next week with a different counting method used that requires the aid of a computer system.

"That will probably take the most of next week to finalise," the spokesperson said.

Results for the four crucial seats of Albany, Forrestfield, Riverton and Wanneroo are still too close to call.

According to the WAEC website this morning , Labor remained ahead in Albany by 117 votes after a notional distribution of preferences as well as Forrestfield by 242 votes.

In the tight seat of Riverton, the Liberals remained steady, leading by 32 votes, and in Wanneroo by 108 votes.

Currenlty the ALP hold 25 seats while the Liberal Party hold 22 seats.
