Eden strikes nanotech deal with Monash University

Perth clean energy company Eden Energy has entered into an exclusive licence agreement with Monash University in Victoria to utilise technology that will enable carbon nanotubes (CN) to effectively mix into cement to produce stronger concrete.

Under a five-year deal, the partners will collaborate on existing and future research projects in CN technology in the hopes of getting a product into the market.

For the past two years, Eden has supplied Monash with CN for enrichment into a paste that is 30 per cent stronger than conventional cement.

Immediate applications for the CN technology have been identified in the US for the hardening of concrete floors, roadways and paving for concrete bridges that are subject to snow damage.

The US has a total annual concrete infrastructure bill valued at approximately $40 billion per annum, meaning an enormous potential market for Eden and Monash.

Commercial trials to be conducted in the US are expected within the next 12 months.
