EPRA key link to Northbridge project

The State Government has announced the East Perth Redevelopment Authority will control the Northbridge Link project, involving the sinking of a portion of the Perth to Fremantle railway line. The Government will commit $25 million to the project, expected to be matched by the City of Perth. Minister for Planning and Infrastructure Alannah MacTiernan said EPRA would bring an enormous amount of experience and had the capacity to do such a project. “Experience has shown that when we have these complex projects, a combination of planning and development power is required, and EPRA can deliver that in a cost effective way,” Ms MacTiernan said. “We are looking for council approval in the next three months and hope to begin works later this year. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the Perth CBD reunited with the Northbridge entertainment district and it will deliver massive social, environmental and economic benefits to the city and all Western Australians.” City of Perth mayor Peter Nattrass said the sinking of the train line was a top priority and the council wanted to link Northbridge with the CBD.
