EMCO to build $30m aged care facility

Perth-based company EMCO Building has secured a contract to build MercyCare’s new $30 million residential aged care facility in Maddington, with construction expected to begin as early as April.

The development comprises six two-storey complexes for 108 residents and a wellness garden spanning a 7,892 square metre site on Maddington Road, adjacent to MercyCare’s existing facility.

Initial works will begin in early March ahead of construction in early April, with the first residents expected in early 2024.

The appointment follows a three-month tender process for the delivery of the project, which incorporates the small-house model of care to deliver wellness benefits and encourage greater independence.

MercyCare chief executive Anthony Smith said the team was confident EMCO was well equipped to deliver its vision for a vibrant campus, having spearheaded projects across multiple sectors including aged care.

EMCO Building chief executive Ron Keogh said the company was eager to partner with MercyCare on the project, which is expected to break ground in the next few weeks.

“The success of a building project is, in no small part, determined by the relationships between the client, consultants and builder which, we are pleased to say, have been positive so far which bodes well for the main build,” he said.

“This has never been truer than in today’s challenging environment when understanding and flexibility is needed by the whole team.”

The value of the contract has not been publicly disclosed.

MercyCare has been providing aged care services for two decades, with more than 1,200 staff and volunteers delivering 29 services in 48 locations across the state.
