WESTPAC has entered the e-commerce arena with the launch of its eMarket online shopping directory.
eMarket provides a secure payment solution for internet shoppers by ofering a selection of merchants who can process credit card transactions securely using Westpac accredited systems.
Westpac group executive business & consumer banking Michael Hawker said internet shopping was growing in popularity across a range of goods including books, CDs, videos, computer software and hardware and travel.
“However, fear and security are proving to be barriers to even greater levels of shopping on the web,” Mr Hawker said.
Westpac head of Internet services Jona-than Poole said the service was a gateway for web shopping.
“The benefits to any credit card holder will be increased levels of trust and security, that will result in increased internet shopping volumes for our merchants,” Mr Poole said.
More than 25 retailers are already part of eMarket and Westpac expects that number to grow to more than 150 in three months’ time.
