Transport Minister Troy Buswell has announced a joint venture between Downer EDI Works and Mouchel International will take on a long-term road maintenance contract in the Mid West and Gascoyne.

The $226 million deal will have an initial term of five years, with the provision for extension if the joint venture demonstrates a high level of performance.

Mr Buswell said the contract was the fifth integrated service arrangement to be awarded as current long term road maintenance contracts near their end.

"These new arrangements are more than just road maintenance contracts - they provide aspects of road network operations; operational asset management; maintenance delivery; some minor capital works (projects less than $3million in value); and project and contract management services," Mr Buswell said.

"The ISA selection process aimed to ultimately identify the best value from our private sector partners and considered which integrated service providers were most likely to form an effective collaborative relationship with Main Roads."

There are three remaining ISA's to be awarded over the next six months; for the Kimberley, Pilbara and Goldfields-Esperance.
