The state government has transferred a large portion of crown land to the City of Stirling for the redevelopment of Mirrabooka's town centre.

Planning Minister John Day said the government had agreed to transfer 10,603 square metres of land to the City of Stirling to allow for the construction of a second main street at Mirrabooka.

The second strip would add to the jointly funded $4.5 million bus station refurbishment and $4.2 million town square, Mr Day said.

"This second mixed use main street will provide a direct connection from Mirrabooka Avenue through to the new town square at the heart of the centre," Mr Day said.

"The state government has been a key contributor in each of the improvements above, which are being delivered through the Mirrabooka Regional Centre Improvement Strategy.

"The strategy is a multi-departmental approach involving State and local governments, to provide opportunities for current and future generations in areas of recognised social and economic disadvantage."

The improved road connections will also assist access to public transportation, reducing reliance on cars and lift the value of adjacent properties and Mr Day said this would lead to better utilisation of the area, attracting further redevelopment and investment from both the public and private sectors.

"The new main street works see the delivery of a further $6.1million of capital improvements within the centre," the Minister said.

"Added to this is the start of a $16.8million project of 62 units, delivered by the private market using Commonwealth funding."
