Day approves Wheatbelt development plans

Planning Minister John Day says he is hoping to stimulate population growth and economic activity in the Wheatbelt with the approval of two significant residential development proposals in Gingin and York.

Amendments to local planning schemes will free up 197 hectares of land in Gingin, known as Lancelin South, for urban development and conservation, and 113ha of land in York for a substantive urban development to be known as Daliak.

Both proposals would allow for the development of over 1,000 dwellings at each site, Mr Day said.

The South Lancelin proposal also comprises 50ha of industrial land and 22ha of conservation zones.

Mr Day also approved the zoning of a 343ha site south of York for residential purposes that will provide around 150 semi-rural lots.

"This proposal will establish the Gwambygine Estate five kilometres south of York and add variety to the area's land market," Mr Day said.

The approved proposals will now enter the planning phase, and be investigated for the provision of vital infrastructure, water management and detailed design.
