THE Department of Land Information has officially recorded its highest number of document lodgements in any financial year.

The 400,158 documents filed by the end of the 2003-04 financial year was up 5 per cent on the previous record set in 2002-03.

The documents related to the buying and selling of property, including transfers and mortgages and equated to land transfers worth $24 billion and $39 billion worth of mortgages secured.

One of the things that helped DOLI to handle the increased document flow was SmartRegister, the department’s move to digital title registration.

SmartRegister involved the conversion of 886,000 land titles to digital format and effectively transformed the WA Titles Register from a paper-based register to a digital e-register.
