Maurice Meade (pictured right) opened his first hair-dressing salon in Subiaco 30 years ago.

It still operates from the same site and is joined by seven other stores across the metropolitan area that employ 130 people.

According to Mr Meade’s public relations manager and sister-in-law, Felicity Cox, the brand has been built from the roots of Mr Meade’s first salon.

“The vision back then is the same as it is today,” Ms Cox said. “We were very innovative and we still are, but I think back then we were even more innovative in design. People would stop and stare and we really brought that kind of work to WA.”

Ms Cox said keeping abreast of market trends kept the business at the forefront of the industry.

“We’re not just innovative in WA, but Australia-wide. There is no other salon group like us that is Australian owned with the advanced ideas that we have,” Ms Cox said.

Aside from cutting-edge design and trend setting, Maurice Meade also keeps in touch with retail trends.

“We’ve launched pamper packages where we include all the prices,” Ms Cox said.

“People like to have good hair and if the budget is tight they will often not buy clothes and get their hair done instead; it’s a little bit of pampering.”

Ms Cox said retaining a good repeat clientele was all about good service and communication.

“We don’t hide anything from our customers,” she said. “We never start work on anyone without them knowing what it will cost.”
