THE undulating green valleys of Cowaramup may soon be the backdrop for a proposed $25 million international resort hotel.

The development proposal received a boost this week when the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River council unanimously voted to initiate the rezoning process required to kick-start the development.

Located 10km north of Margaret River, the proposed development would be the biggest five-star resort out of Perth, comprising of 25 villas, 200 rooms and 250-seat conference facilities.

An international hotel chain is expected to operate the rural hotel resort/day spa.

Developer Michael Hale of Augusta Enterprises said a major hurdle for the development had been overcome and what would now follow was due process.

The development proposal will go to respective government agencies to be determined and be advertised for public comment.

“Essentially it has started the rezoning process and it will go back to council for development approval,” said Mr Hale, who was encouraged by the unanimous support of the council.
