Corruption and Crime Commissioner Kevin Hammond

Commissioner Kevin Hammond (Corruption and Crime Commission of Western Australia) will speak on the commission and its work at a breakfast for the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA), Friday May 27 at the Sheraton Hotel. Commissioner Hammond was appointed to the newly created Corruption and Crime Commission in January 2004. He has an extensive legal background, having been admitted to the WA Bar in 1960, and served as a District Court judge since 1980 (including as Chief Justice from 1995). In that time, he presided over a number of high profile criminal trials and promoted wide-ranging reforms to the court system to speed up the judicial process while retaining the integrity of the courts’ work. The Corruption and Crime Commission was established on January 1 2004 and its jurisdiction covers more than 115,000 Western Australian public officers in around 550 agencies. Its general purpose is to oversee the reporting and investigation of misconduct in WA’s public sector, to improve the public sector’s integrity, and to reduce the incidence of misconduct and organised crime. The presentation is aimed at public officials and managers from agencies and councils who deal with integrity issues.
