Coppin to head east

BELL Potter Securities WA State manager and 2003 WA Business News 40under40 winner Andrew Coppin has been appointed State manager of the company’s NSW branch.

The posting is a fitting reward for Mr Coppin’s work in leading the Perth branch to a position where it outperforms its national counterparts,

Comprising 180 dealers and consultants, the Sydney branch is the stockbroking firm’s largest office in Australia. In comparison, the Perth branch has 55 employees.

Mr Coppin was appointed WA State manager of Bell Potter Securities 18 months ago.

Since that time the Perth branch has experienced substantial growth, with Bell Potter Securities now estimated to be Perth’s third largest stockbroking firm, having established a strong presence in WA.

Mr Coppin attributes much of the growth to the upturn in the global stock market, WA’s strengthening resource sector, and his management style.

“I went into management 18 months ago after being a dealer for 10 years,” Mr Coppin said.

“I see myself as more of a coach rather than anything else.”

He plans to start in the Sydney branch in January next year and is in the process of looking for a WA manager to continue to grow the business.
