Companies start reporting emissions

WITH the federal government’s emissions trading scheme set to be operational by 2010, one Western Australian company is getting in early to meet its legal carbon emissions reporting requirements. WA-based Challenge Dairy has employed the services of technology service provider Cosol to complete its first carbon emissions review, even though agribusiness has initially been excluded from the national emissions trading scheme. A number of medium to large companies throughout Australia will have to comply with the National Greenhouse Emissions Reporting requirements by 2009, requiring them to conduct carbon inventory of their businesses. Meanwhile, Newcrest Mining, which has an office in East Perth, has appointed Cosol as its preferred specialist mining IT consultants. Cosol will assist the company in managing its “aggressive work program”.
