The City of Cockburn has been rated the state’s most sustainable local government area.

Environment Minister Bill Marmion said the City of Cockburn had demonstrated strong leadership in environmental innovation and community engagement and was a worthy winner of the 2012 Sustainable City award.

“The City of Cockburn connects its residents and community with the local environment and was particularly impressive in the areas of innovation, youth, heritage and culture and community partnerships,” he said.

“I congratulate all the nominees, which have shown dedication and commitment to building better and more sustainable communities across Western Australia.”

The awards are part of the Keep Australia Beautiful initiative.
