Civmec erects first steel at Henderson

Civmec has erected the first steel for its new $80 million assembly hall in Henderson today, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison in attendance for the event.
Civmec said it had also prepared steel for delivery to South Australia for the navy’s new offshore patrol vessels.
Construction of the assembly hall is scheduled for completion in late 2019.
The 53,000 square metre facility will be 70 metres high and able to complete air warfare destroyers, frigates and offshore patrol vessels.
“At times like this, it’s important to stop and reflect on the company’s achievements,” Civmec executive chairman James Fitzgerald said.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed to the company for their support and encouragement which has helped to get us to this significant moment.
“This facility will create employment for numerous generations to come.
“It will be a hub for training and innovation and will be a home-grown leader in the future of modern heavy engineering. It’s a facility that West Australians, and indeed all Australians, can be proud of.”
