North American catering and facilities management company Civeo has expanded its WA operations after winning work off French rival Sodexo.

Fortescue Metals Group has until now engaged both companies to provide catering at its work sites in the Pilbara.

Following a review, it has appointed Civeo as the provider of choice, to align its food services across all operations to one service provider.

Sodexo will continue to provide other services such as camp management, cleaning, retail, transport and airport management at the miner’s Cloudbreak and Christmas Creek sites.

The value of its work with Fortescue was highlighted in 2019, when it announced a $165 million contract to provide a full suite of services including contracting at these sites.

Civeo’s new win comes five years after it entered the WA market by purchasing Kewdale-based Action Industrial Catering.

It is also a big player in the east coast market after it bought The MAC.

The company has a national footprint of approximately 8,800 rooms across eight villages in Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia, according to its web site.

These include Karratha Village, which has 298 rooms.

It previously owned a 232-room village in Kambalada, which was sold to a customer in 2022 but is still operated by Civeo.

It provides village services at a total of 13 customer-owned properties in regional WA, with a total of 10,000 rooms.

These villages range from 200 to 1,900 rooms.

Sodexo is ranked as the largest facilities management company in WA, according to Business News’s Data & Insights.

It has about 5,000 staff in WA, with its biggest contract being with Rio Tinto.
