THE City of Perth should begin putting parts of its economic development plan into action later this year.
The plan has been developed in conjunction with 46 CBD stakeholders, including hotel operators, tourism operators, restaurateurs, retailers and business organisations such as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The stakeholders took part in four workshops that considered what could be done to boost tourism and retail business in the city.
They were given a set of key objectives to debate and came up with an agreed set of actions.
It is understood some of these agreed actions will need to be studied further by council staff and not all of the suggestions will be carried out by the city.
Perth City Councillors are expected to consider the plan later this month and, if they sign off on it, some parts of it could be put into operation almost immediately.
In the past, city stakeholders such as the Property Council of Australia’s WA Branch branded Perth a “rudderless city” because it did not have a long-term plan or, for that matter, a town planner.
Council moved to rectify that last year when it employed Max Hipkins as planning director.
