City extends heritage rate relief scheme

The City of Perth has extended its rates relief program for owners of buildings listed in its register of cultural and heritage significance.

Under the program, owners of listed places can apply for a cut in their normal council rates, equivalent to  at least 10 per cent of the general rate, or $560, and capped at $20,000.

“The rate relief scheme is part of the City’s award-winning heritage incentives program and is designed to promote and encourage ongoing care and maintenance of heritage-listed places within the City of Perth local government area,” Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said.

“the council places a high priority on retaining heritage places but recognises that there are costs involved for owners in maintaining them.

Ms Scaffidi said 103 buildings were currently covered by the program, which was launched in 2006.
