City carpark conundrum

ABOUT 1,200 commuters will be looking for parking spaces from November 5 due to the closure of the Busport car park.
The car park, a well patronised Perth City Council-run long-term commuter car park, is to be the site of the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre and will be closed from November 5 to allow works on the centre to start.
When it is completed the PCEC will contain a 1,500-bay car park that will be run by council.
However, only 900 of those bays will be available to commuters. The remaining 600 will be required for the use of visitors to the PCEC whenever it is hosting conventions or exhibitions.
Council has a further 10 car parks that cater for commuters. For those opting to car pool, parking is available for just $3 a day at the Queens Gardens and Mayfair Street car parks.
Secure Parking director Alf Wilson has treated the closure of the Busport car park as a marketing opportunity.
The company is offering Busport patrons the chance to purchase $8 a day parking vouchers for use in its QV1, Myer Megamart, Kings Hotel and Queen Street car parks.
Mr Wilson said spaces in those car parks were limited so patrons needed to call soon.
Wilsons Parking has five long-term commuter car bays within the CBD. These are at 18 Roe Street, 22 Stirling Street, between Newcastle and Aberdeen streets opposite the Central TAFE, on the corner of Pier and Wellington streets and at 427-437 Murray Street, Perth.
