MORE public housing is earmarked for Northbridge and Midland following a commitment by the state government to spend $12.7 million developing two of its sites. In Midland, the government, in partnership with community housing provider Foundation Housing, plans to spend $4.7 million constructing 27 one-bedroom and two-bedroom units and 455 square metres of commercial space on the corner of Helena Street and Foundry Road. A further $8 million will be spent building 50 lodging house rooms, 16 apartments and nine commercial units on its long-held lot at 306 Newcastle Street in Northbridge. Both projects are expected to be completed by 2009.
