Christmas shopping hours released

Tuesday, 14 September, 1999 - 22:00
SHOPPING hours will be extended in the Perth metropolitan area during Christmas and New Year.

The hours will apply to most large shops including department stores and supermarkets. All shops could open for at least sixty-five hours in the six days before Christmas. Shops with ‘small’ or ‘special shop’ certificates could also open outside these times.

Shops are allowed to open from 8:00am to 6:00pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

These hours also apply to the Perth and Fremantle tourism precincts, where shops trade to 9:00pm on Fridays.

On 21, 22 and 23 December all shops will be allowed to open from 8:00am to 9:00pm. All shops will be able to open between noon and 6:00pm on 19 December.

Excluding those with exemptions, all shops will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and 27 December. Trade will also be allowed during the public holidays on 28 December and 3 January.
