Chevron Australia has awarded a five-year contract for the supply of hire equipment services to Coates Hire West.

The contract will encompass hire equipment services at Chevron’s operational assets in Australia, and will enable Coates to establish a permanent presence at the Chevron-operated Gorgon and natural gas plant sites.

Coates claims the services and equipment lease contract will create 20 jobs.

It follows Coates’ provision of equipment during the earthmoving and construction phase of both the Gorgon and Wheatstone projects.

Coates executive general manager (west) Marcus Geisler said the company delivered great value to the LNG industry.

“We’re proud of the depth of our expertise in safety, equipment management and working with our customers on cost-effective equipment solutions,” he said.

Mr Geisler said the vast investments being made in the development of LNG and the increasing volumes of LNG being exported would ensure Coates would have a specialised supply focus for the growing resources sector.

“Coates Hire will continue to invest in our people along with new equipment designed for the rigours of remote operation and ensure all of our customers are better equipped,” he said.

Coates opened branch in Karratha earlier this year, about 200 kilometres east of the Gorgon site, a town often used as a base for equipment transport to the Gorgon precinct.
