Chevron MD takes global role

Mark Hatfield has been appointed to lead Chevron Australia, replacing Al Williams who has been made global vice president of corporate affairs.

Currently Mr Hatfield is vice president of Chevron’s Gulf of Mexico business unit, and will start as managing director in Perth in March 2021.

He joined Chevron in 1982 as a production engineer in New Orleans after graduating and has since served a number of leadership positions including general manager of strategy and planning for Chevron’s upstream business in California.   

Mr Hatfield said he looked forward to building on the work Mr Williams had done to strengthen relationships with business and community partners.

Mr Williams has been managing director of Chevron Australia since 2019, after joining the company in 1991.

He said Mr Hatfield was an outstanding leader who would bring deep water expertise and a strategic mindset.

“I have relished my time in Australia working alongside talented, innovative and energetic people to safely bring natural gas to the West Australian community and LNG to the Asia Pacific region,” Mr Williams said.

“I look forward to continuing to champion the mutual interests of Australia and Chevron in my new role.”

Mr Williams starts his position in March.

Chevron operates the Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG facilities in WA.

But there have been troubles in recent months, with the Gorgon Train 2 turned off in July because of welding issues.

Production at the train restarted in November.

The two other Gorgon trains will be shut progressively for repairs.
