WITH his Wesfarmers successor announced, leading Perth businessman Michael Chaney will be honoured with a special award for Philanthropic Dedication to the Western Australian Community on May 26.

The inaugural award, initiated by United Way, was presented to Perth socialites Bill and Rhonda Wyllie last year.

United Way vice chairman John Carlson said it was only fitting that Mr Chaney was this year’s recipient.

As Wesfarmers managing director Mr Chaney has been at the forefront of corporate and personal citizenship in WA providing financial and physical support to a range of causes and leadership in fundraising appeals.

In addition to his business responsibilities he is a member of the Council of the National Gallery of Australia, a member of the JP Morgan International Council, vice president of the Business Council of Australia, a director of the Centre for Independent Studies and chairman of the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth.
