Artrya co-founder John Barrington has been named to replace Wayne Martin as chair of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

Mr Barrington has previously been involved in the institute, serving on its board for the past three years.

Artrya, the artificial intelligence healthcare company he co-founded and now chairs, was also established with Perkins professor Girish Dwivedi.

Mr Barrington has founded several other technology innovation companies, including big data firm Nerve Systems, and runs strategy governance firm Barrington Consulting Group.

He is a prominent board member and serves as chair of the Curtin University school of management advisory board, and a director of Creative Partnerships Australia.

Mr Barrington said he was excited to step into the chair role and continue contributing to the Perkins.

He replaces Mr Martin, who was chair for three years, and oversaw a period of growth at the organisation.

Over Mr Martin’s time, the Perkins completed a scientific restructure, developed strategies to encourage early-to-mid career researchers and supported the development of several spin-out companies.
