Cedar Woods has started formal planning for a 600-home subdivision project at the former Bushmead rifle range site near Guildford.

The Perth-based developer said today it had begun the process to amend planning schemes to allow zoning changes to facilitate the development.

Cedar Woods has considerable experience in the area, having developed the nearby Helena Valley private estate.

WA state manager Stuart Duplock said the Bushmead development would have an emphasis on conservation, with two thirds of the area to be subdivided remaining as natural bushland.

“We have identified the potential to deliver a diverse residential community while protecting the rich conservation and environmental values of the site,” Mr Duplock said in a statement.

“The Department of Environment and Conservation and the Office of the Environmental Protection Authority have formally advised the Department of Planning they have no objection to the MRS and TPS amendment being advertised.”

At 12:30PM, WST, Cedar Woods shares were down 0.2 per cent, trading at $5.39.
