BRUNSWICK Junction-based earthmoving contractor B & J Catalano has been awarded a $100 million earthworks contract at the Worsley Alumina Pty Ltd’s refinery near Collie. The three-year contract to the private family company cements a business relationship between the two companies of more than two decades. B & J Catalano’s work at the site is largely based on the construction and ongoing manage-ment of bauxite residue disposal at the refinery, and the contractor will have 130 machines at Worsley over the coming summer period. The contract is one of a number of significant operations handled by local players. Picton-based Piancentini & Sons does significant work for Iluka Resources Ltd in the minerals sands field.
