Cashless parking

LOCAL mobile technology company iPark has secured a contract with the City of Fremantle to install its cashless parking system.

iPark trialled the program in Subiaco in 2002, and the City of Subiaco agreed to a commercial roll-out about six months ago.

The City of Bunbury will also implement the cashless parking system.

iPark managing director Adam Broadhurst said there was strong interest from other councils in Western Australia and from authorities on the east coast to implement the system.

He said councils liked the system because it was easy for motorists to use.

“When registering or parking, motorists simply call 1300PARKiP (1300 727 547) and follow the prompts to enter the zone number displayed on parking signs or parking metres near where they have parked,” Mr Broadhurst said.

“They then detail the amount they wish to spend or send an SMS to iPark with the details.”

He said accounts could be set up and re-charged over the phone, on the Internet, or through hundreds of authorised newsagencies and service stations via credit cards or pre-paid vouchers at these authorised agents.
