Carmelo Princiotto

THE furniture industry may be under threat from cheap imports, but Jamel Industries has succeeded in this climate by producing quality hardwood furniture, specialising in products made from unique and rare local jarrah and marri timbers. Carmelo Princiotto began as an apprentice cabinet maker and, over seven years, honed his craft and increased his company’s production by 30 per cent. Mr Princiotto launched Jamel in 1992 as a one-man operation and increased production by 400 per cent in its second year. Jamel’s most significant business achievements are the establishment of brand name recognition in the market and recognition by Furnitex, the largest furniture exhibitors in Australia. Mr Princiotto has changed the image of marri from a timber used principally for firewood to that of a well-respected timber for furniture manufacturing. Jamel industries has been fortunate not to have suffered any major setbacks, and this has been attributed to excellent staff and consistently supportive suppliers and customers. Mr Princiotto is an innovator and has received numerous awards during his career. Winning the prestigious FIFWA Premiers award for ‘best of the best’ was a career highlight. His creativity was acknowledged at Furnitex 2005 when he won three awards, including most marketable product. Jamel is proud to employ young apprentices and trainees and will continue to promote work experience among high school students.
