Calibre receives $150m Rio contract

Perth-based engineering group Calibre has won a $150 million service order from Rio Tinto to provide engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance services at the Yandicoogina project in the Pilbara.

The works are expected to be completed by the first half of 2015, with the peak construction workforce exceeding 800 people, including 200 Calibre personnel.

Calibre’s scope of work, which comes under its preferred contractor agreemeing with Rio, includes construction of a sizer plant, upgrading existing processing plants

Rio is aiming to expand its Yandigoogina production to 56 million tonnes per year, from its current 53 million tonne level.

A second wet processing plant is being added to the project to provide a platform for future expansion.

Calibre managing director Rod Baxter said the company was pleased to provide services to Rio in the expansion project.

“It is a further example of Calibre’s strong record of conversion of assess phase work to deliver phase activity, and beyond into the ongoing support phase of the asset lifecycle.

“It further underlines our ability to deliver both greenfield infrastructure and brownfields sustaining works over the life of an asset.”

At 2:13PM, Calibre stocks had slipped 0.4 per cent, trading at $1.32.
