WEST Perth-based CVA Film and Television won the inaugural Export Award for Arts and Entertainment in the WA Industry and Export Awards announced last week.
The production company makes corporate productions, documentaries, TV series and animation programs for export to international markets, mainly Asian.
CVA executive producer Derek Longhurst said 95 per cent of the company’s turnover was from offshore markets.
“Singapore is our largest market but we have made productions for Japan, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Italy and New Zealand,” Mr Longhurst said.
“We have just completed 52 programs for Singapore television and are negotiating a US$6 million animation deal with Japan.”
CVA recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Singapore production house Pandora Interactive.
“They have devised flash technology that allows both TV broadcast and web broadcast,” he said.
“This is a landmark breakthrough because it’s easier to multi-purpose programs.
“We will provide the creativity and Pandora will provide the technology. We have a lot of synergies with this company and plan to undertake a large commitment with them.”
Mr Longhurst said CVA was negotiating a development deal with US-based Warner Bros.
“Development deals tend to be in the vicinity of $2-$5 million,” he said.
“This is not a particularly generous deal so we are going over it line by line and are keeping ourselves open to other offers.”
Mr Longhurst said the company was in discussion with Perth broadcasters about a major drama written by Ron Elliot called Cyberpilots.
