The City of Perth has been forced to close the car park underneath the Perth Concert Hall until Wednesday over safety concerns.

The state government ordered the closure at 4:30pm on Friday as workers were returning home for the weekend.

A spokesperson for the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries told Business News the car park would be closed until Wednesday while engineers look at safety issues.

The car park sits underneath Perth Concert Hall and has entrances on both St Georges Terrace and Terrace Road.

Perth Concert Hall is still open and operating as normal.

About half a dozen City of Perth inspectors at the site on Friday afternoon were directing drivers trying to access and leave the car park, which has space for up to 350 vehicles.

Cars already parked in the site were allowed to leave but advised to use the Terrace Road car park if they need to return.

The car park is frequented by workers on St Georges Terrace.

The site also sits across road from the land earmarked to be the Aboriginal Cultural Centre, estimated to cost millions of dollars.

In mid-2022, the state government announced funding towards a cultural centre to be built on Terrace Road Car Park, due to open in 2028.

The state and federal government have committed about $50 million each towards the proposed centre.
