The Business News Rising Star awards have been revamped as an acknowledgement of the ever-changing landscape for business.

The newly launched RISE Business Awards by Business News will this year recognise the triumphs of Western Australia’s businesses during some of their toughest times.

The change comes in response to the new parameters in which WA businesses have had to operate during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The theme for this year’s awards is ‘Business Reimagined’.

Business News is calling for entries from businesses that can demonstrate their use of reimagined growth strategies, quality customer engagement, product or service innovation or workforce engagement.

Award winners will receive a prize valued at $10,000, in the form of a Business News campaign and editorial coverage.

Winners of each category will be considered for the major award - Business News’ Western Australian Business of the Year 2020.

Awards will be split into the following categories:

  • Startup Business of the Year
  • Micro Business of the Year
  • Small Business of the Year
  • Medium Business of the Year
  • Large business of the year
  • Not for profit / charity Business of the Year
  • Employer of the Year
  • Western Australian Business of the Year

Opportunities are also available for businesses to sponsor the awards, which brings branding and networking opportunities throughout the award season.

Business News director of strategy and innovation Mark Pownall, who will chair the judging, said the ‘Business Reimagined’ theme reflected the need to recognise businesses for the role they played in the community during this challenging time.

“Success in these times is more than just P&L,” Mr Pownall said.

“We need businesses to show how they have adapted to circumstances – the pandemic is a test, the likes of which few business leaders have ever encountered.

“We want to highlight extraordinary leadership in extraordinary times.”

Key dates are as follows:

  • Monday, August 3 - Entries open
  • Friday, September 25 - Entries close
  • Friday, October 30 - Judging complete
  • Wednesday, December 2 - Awards cocktail evening, winners announced
