Construction is expected to start in coming weeks on the Fremantle Dockers’ new headquarters, with the City of Cockburn finalising an $83 million contract with construction giant Brookfield Multiplex.

Brookfield Multiplex was lined up as preferred tenderer for the project in January, to complete final design works and negotiate the final price for the build.

The City of Cockburn said the $108 million project would include an indoor sports hall, a community health club and six pools of various sizes, including a 50-metre Olympic-sized outdoor pool.

It will also include three waterslides and commercial health space for lease.

The Dockers’ headquarters, which remain subject to finalising agreements between the football club and the City of Cockburn, will include administration and training facilities as well as a team store.

Commercial Aquatics Australia, a division of Perkins Builders, was selected last week as the preferred construction contractor for the pools.

Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett said he was please another milestone had been achieved on the project.

“This facility will truly be one of the best of its kind in Australia and set the benchmark for the future in terms of being a fully integrated facility partnering with Fremantle Dockers Football Club and Curtin University,” Mr Howlett said.

“The state-of-the-art sporting complex will provide a full range of aquatic and indoor and outdoor sporting and health facilities to meet the needs of the entire region, as well as providing an elite training facility and headquarters for the Fremantle Dockers and a university.”
