The state government will spend $4.7 million on resealing parts of the Kwinana Freeway and Forrest Highway, with work to be carried out by a subsidiary of Boral.

Boral Asphalt WA will resurface 11 kilometres of freeway and highway between Karnup and South Yunderup, starting next month.

Transport Minister Dean Nalder said the work was necessary to maintain the important link to the South West region, which was used by an average of 30,000 vehicles a day.

“Once completed, the upgraded road will be safer for motorists and provide environmental benefits such as reduced noise levels from the freeway and highway, as well as lower ongoing maintenance costs,” Mr Nalder said.

“In addition, the project will employ 32 personnel including sealing crew, asphalt crew, traffic control and project management.

“The supply of fabric will also involve the employment of about 10 people.”

Work will be carried out at night to minimise disruption to road users, and is expected to be completed before April.
