Peter Bacchus and John Turner have joined the board of Galaxy Resources, while Perth-based Craig Burton has been appointed to the board of NSW company Atrum Coal.

Mr Bacchus is chairman and chief executive officer of boutique merchant bank Bacchus Capital Advisers, which is based in London.

He holds a number of other directorships, including at NordGold and Gold Fields.

Mr Turner is the leader of Canada-based law firm Fasken Martineau's mining specialty group.

In addition to the Mt Cattlin lithium mine in Western Australia, one of Galaxy’s potential projects is the James Bay lithium project, located in Canada.

The move by Galaxy Resources takes that company’s board to five members, with existing director George Zhang, chairman Martin Rowley and managing director Anthony Tse continuing in their roles.

Mr Rowley said he welcomed both men to the company.

“Their highly successful track records within the mining industry, make them excellent appointments to the board,” he said.

“I have personally worked with both Mr Bacchus and Mr Turner for many years.

“Their international experience, expertise and extensive contact lists in the resources sector will be invaluable additions to the skill mix of the Galaxy board as the company evaluates the development options for its world class lithium projects and other opportunities as they arise.

“The board now comprises an excellent balance of skills and experience ideally suited to lead Galaxy’s growth strategy.”

Atrum is pursuing the Groundhog anthracite coal project in western Canada.

Mr Burton invested $2.5 million in Atrum in a recent capital raising, and is a director of two other listed entities – Cradle Resources and Capital Drilling.

Shares in Atrum fell 1 per cent to 57 cents each at the close of trading, while shares in Galaxy were unchanged at 55.5 cents each.
