LYN Bently’s doing pretty well for someone who claims to be a bad marketer.

The creator and owner of gourmet jams and chutney supplier, Sticky Fingers Gourmet Preserves, Lyn will be opening a commercial kitchen shortly to cope with the increasing demand for her homemade spreads.

What started as a small-time gig at a market stall has grown into a much sought after commodity, so much so that renting a kitchen simply won’t do. Starting out at the Canning Vale Markets, Lyn progressed to the food trade fair shows, where she exhibited her products. She gained a small following with connoisseurs of jams and chutneys and continued to expand her product range. But it wasn’t until late this year, when she was invited to participate in the Wrest Point National Fine Foods Awards in Tasmania, that she struck national recognition and gained confirmation that her product was better than most on the market. The six gongs she won have assured the business’s momentum has accelerated way beyond expectations.

Lyn’s Apple Honey Jam and Pickled Garlic won gold awards and her Peach Melba Jam, Orange Mango Marmalade and Garlic Pickled Peppers were awarded silver. A bronze medal went to her Orange Whiskey Marmalade. Since those awards in September Lyn has been gathering more and more momentum and has found new outlets to sell her range.

Lyn has a huge range of sweet and savoury preserves. Some of the nice ones you may want to pick up over the Christmas break include the plum and port jam, raspberry rose jam, and the red currant and shiraz jam.

If you like things hot – and I mean hot – taste some of Lyn’s atomic chilli chutney.

Other savoury items include coriander carrot sticks and pickled cucumber slices.

You can check out Lyn’s great range of preserves at various liquor stores and gourmet outlets, including Raeburn Orchard, Oasis Continental Foods, Gourmet Indulgence, and Bakers Dream.

Hooray for the Margaret River Chocolate Company. They’ve produced sugar-free chocolate. Yep, sugar free … well, alright, there is some sugar in it, but the makers of this special blend say the inclusion of the sweetener maltitol replaces the refined sugar, making this chocolate bar suitable for diabetics.

The bar will still contain natural sugars in the cocoa but contains less sugar than your ordinary bar.

You can purchase this chocolate, which tastes as good as the “normal” stuff, from the Swan Valley and Margaret River stores or through a range of retail outlets in the metro area.
